Melinda Ahn is a Cambridge Who’s Who member and elementary school special education teacher. Ms. Ahn also serves as chairwoman of the Kokokahi Tropical Hunger Mission, a part of the Kokohahi Church, which was founded by Reverend Olin Pendleton and his wife Betsy. Their mission was to raise funds to support the development of a self-sustaining agricultural system in impoverished regions of Asia and the Pacific. Since Rev. Pendleton passed away in 2003, theparishioners of the Kokohahi Church have continued to help "the poorest of the poor."

For over 30 years the Kokohahi Hunger Mission has provided hunger relief programs and other worthwhile services to assist the less fortunate. Books and school supplies such as globes, maps and pencils are given to needy children. Volunteers also teach local residents to farm so that they are able to sustain themselves and their families. Donations of clothing, fabric and sewing machines are also distributed, so that they can make or repair their own clothes.

The Kokokahi Hunger Mission recently developed several programs in the Philippines. In particular, funds were used to restore land and crops when there was severe summer monsoon flooding. Five farms in the Tumpagon Village were also selected to set aside land for families to grow their own food; the villagers received the tools and seeds needed to sow their crops. Furthermore, Kokokahi built a community center and a library filled with books donated by the Kapunahala and Kaneohe Elementary schools.

Ms. Ahn received a master’s degree in Education in 2006 and a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1974 from San Jose State University. She currently lives in Kaneohe, Hawai’i. Donations for the Kokokahi Tropical Hunger Mission can be mailed to:
