Cambridge Who's Who Lifetime Member Stuart Bass, A.C.E. is a freelance film
editor and director who has accrued countless production, directorial and editorial credits over the course of his 25 year career. With a focus on series comedies, Bass has worked on the cutting room floor for some of mainstream television’s most memorable events since 1983.
Bass received a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1979. He started out working on music videos for a then-fledgling MTV and eventually advanced to the field of commercial editing. He took a position as assistant editor in 1983 for “After M*A*S*H,” moving on to edit episodes of “MacGyver,” “The Wonder Years” and “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose.” In 1986, he transitioned from linear to non-linear editing with a CBS-Sony application – a revolutionary jump to a previously unexplored technology. From 1996 to2002, he edited 82 episodes of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” Most recently, Bass presided over early episodes of “The Office,” “Arrested Development,” “Notes from the Underbelly” and five episodes of the smash hit “Pushing Daisies.”
During his steadfast film-editing career, Bass has been nominated for no less than three primetime Emmy Awards. In 2006, he received an Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series nomination for his work on “The Ocean Walker” episode of "Arrested Development." Inthat same year, his effort on the episode won in the Best Edited Half-Hour Series for Television category at the 2006 Annual ACE Eddie Awards. In 1994, he was nominated in the Outstanding Individual Achievement - Informational Programming category for his film editing on the comedy-documentary “But... Seriously.” In 1988, he received an Emmy Award nomination in the Outstanding Editing for a Series - Single Camera Production category for the “Loosiers” episode of "The Wonder Years." Additionally, he was nominated for “The Crucible” episode of "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" in the Best Edited Half-Hour Series for Television group at the 1996 Annual ACE Eddie Awards.
Considered an expert in the field, Bass conducts public speaking to academic and professional groups about film editing. He is on the Board of Governors - Television Motion Picture Editors of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He has been a member of American Cinema Editors since 1995.
