Dr. George Shade is honored for his achievements as Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Michigan, as he has continuously demonstrated excellence in the field of healthcare. Dr. Shade is an award-winning professional whose years of experience have helped him help others achieve maximum health. His outstanding accomplishments in research paired with his concentration on the African American community, sterilization of women and the treatment of abnormal pap smears have allowed him to gain recognition within the medical community and among female patients seeking reliable care.
Dr. Shade has spent more than 30 years building on his professional experience, as he has maintained a long-standing interest in becoming an extraordinary medical professional. After attaining an MD at Wayne State University School of Medicine, the celebrated institution for which he now serves as Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Shade was advised by Dr. Charles C. Vincent, an advocate for the education of aspiring African American medical professionals. Inspired by the mentorship he received from the legendary Dr. Vincent, Dr. Shade decided to pursue a career in obstetrics and gynecology at his alma mater. Dr. Shade has been published in the following articles: “Endometriosis in the African-American Female-Racially a Different Entity?,” “Trends in Sterilization since the Introduction of Essure Hysteroscopic Sterilization,” and “An algorithm for potential cost savings in the treatment of abnormal pap smears in pregnancy.”
Respected for his professionalism, accomplishments within his field and outstanding service, Dr. Shade has received countless awards and honors throughout his career. Beginning with the Outstanding Senior Resident Award in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Shade has continued to shine in his craft, having earned the Chrysler Youth Award in 1967, as well as the American Legion Scholarship Award, Wayne State University School of Medicine’s David S. Diamond Award in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a Distinguished Service Award from the St. John Detroit Riverview Hospital’s Board of Trustees. Moreover, Dr. Shade has earned an award for Outstanding Administrative Leadership and Performance as a Healthcare Professional from the Metropolitan Registry, the Charles C. Vincent, M.D. Memorial Lecture Speaker’s Award, and an award for Teaching Excellence from the American Academy of Family Medicine. Dr. Shade is also former president of the Wayne County Medical Society, and a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, The National Medical Association, the Anthony Wayne Society at Wayne State University, Psi Chi National Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa. When he is not hard at work, Dr. Shade enjoys riding horses, playing instruments, and studying photography, sports and art.
