Brenda Reed is a prominent figure and important woman contributing to the welfare and historical richness of our country. She serves as a National Chairperson for the Executive Committee for Disabled American Veterans, was the first woman ever to win the prestigious Soldier of the Year Award, and was also one of the first female soldiers to serve in the United States Army. Her services to the military have paved the way for men and women who continue to perform award-winning duties as new recruits, active duty soldiers, and veterans.
Ms. Reed is recognized for her fine displays of honor, courage and patriotism, and the dedication she shows for her country. She currently seeks out women veterans and individuals on active duty and informs them of the benefits they have earned by being a service member. Ms. Reed is pleased to lend a hand to these women because she understands that many of them do not recognize the fact that they are veterans, believing that they must serve in combat to be labeled as such. She employs her knowledge, patriotism and skills to offer them advice on how to proceed, and helps them file claims, which she also supports. In addition to her patriotic initiatives, Ms. Reed enjoys volunteering in her community. She also creates caps and gowns for premature babies, which she gives to the local veteran’s hospital.
For her accomplishments while serving on active duty, Ms. Reed has earned numerous medals, ribbons and certificates. As a member of the Leadership Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, Who’s Who Among American College Students and the National Dean’s List, Ms. Reed has proven to be an industrious character in many extramural capacities. She was the recipient of two first-place medals from her high school singing competitions that took place in Champagne, Illinois in the opera and folk categories. Taking after an immediate family member who served in the U.S. military, and acknowledging the fact that both her brothers were physically unable to serve, Ms. Reed decided that it was her duty to carry on the family’s military tradition. She became an expert on medical practices in the U.S. Army, and went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing with a minor in Criminal Law in 1997 from the University of Alabama.
