Wolfgang OehmeWolfgang Oehme, architect and owner of Oehme, van Sweden & Associates, is an award-winning landscape designer with a wealth of experience in horticulture and architecture. The extensive portfolio of work that he has accumulated during his more than 50-year career has afforded him opportunities to offer professional landscape design services to clients in Europe and the United States. His specialties in operations management, design and the creative use of herbaceous perennials and ornamental grasses have rendered him a noted expert in his field.

Throughout his steadfast career, Mr. Oehme has redesigned all the plantings along Pennsylvania Avenue from the United States Department of the Treasury toand the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. for the Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation. Other design works of his include the MacArthur Center retail complex at downtown Norfolk in Virginia. Wolfgang Oehme Specializes in Landscape Design
Mr. Oehme’s completion of coursework in landscape architecture at the University of Berlin in 1954 has supported him in the conquest of his professional goals. He is also a licensed landscape architect. His work is not limited to domestic locations; having relocated to the United States in 1957 from his home in Chemnitz, Germany, Mr. Oehme has completed projects in his native city, and has also fulfilled design ventures in Madgeburg. Prior to his co-founding of Oehme, van Sweden & Associates in 1977 with James van Sweden, he designed golf courses, playgrounds and parks for the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks until 1965. Between 1966 and 1974, he practiced on an independent basis, designing park systems for Columbia, MD, and private residences throughout Baltimore.

Mr. Oehme is the co-author of “Bold Romantic Gardens,” with business partner James van Sweden; the book received two Awards of Excellence from the Garden Writers Association of America. Mr. Oehme’s inventive outlook has allowed him to achieve great success thus far, and he feels that his greatest career achievement has been utilizing the opportunity to transform the waterfront of a coal mine in Bitterfeld, Germany into a lake with various types of perennials and grasses. Having contributed a cornucopia of services to the landscaping and architectural industries, Mr. Oehme’s creative thinking and helpful nature has separated him from his professional counterparts. When he is not working, Mr. Oehme enjoys gardening, traveling, and reading business-related publications including Landscape Architecture magazine. He is the proud father of a son named Roland, and his wife’s name is Omi.
