Thomas Warren Ogletree, Frederick Marquand Professor of Ethics and Religious Studies for the Yale Divinity School of Yale University, is a notable Cambridge Who’s Who member because of his continued pursuit of educational excellence. In 2008, Dr. Ogletree earned the distinction of Cambridge Who’s Who Professional of the Year in Theological Education.

Thomas W. Ogletree, Ph.D.An expert in ethics and theological education, Dr. Ogletree is revered in his field and has more than 45 years of professional experience. He remains current in his profession by engrossing himself in industry-related developments. Aside from his educational duties, which entail teaching courses in theology and Christian social ethics, he has written five books: “The World Calling: The Church's Witness in Politics and Society”; “Christian Faith and History: A Critical Comparison of Ernst Troeltsch and Karl Barth"; “The Death of God Controversy”; “The Use of the Bible in Christian Ethics”; and “Hospitality to the Stranger: Dimensions of Moral Understanding.” In addition, he edited opening passages for “Marxist-Christian Dialogue” in 1974 and co-authored “From Hope to Liberation Towards a New Marxist-Christian Dialogue” with Herbert Aptheker and Shepherd Bliss. He also served as the editor of “Soundings, An Interdisciplinary Journal” of the Society for Values in Higher Education from 1975 to 1980, and as founding editor of The Annual Meeting of the Society for Values in Higher Education in 1981. Other scholarly writing endeavors Dr. Ogletree has completed include the co-editorship of “Lifeboat Ethics: The Moral Dilemmas of World Hunger” with George Lucas Jr. More recently, he has written scholarly articles titled: “Responsibility,” “Values and Valuation” (which was published in the “Encyclopedia of Bioethics” in 1995), “Corporate Capitalism and the Common Good” (which was published in the “Journal of Religious Ethics” in 2002), “The Moral Formation of Persons and Communities” (which was published in “A Companion to Religious Ethics” in 2002) and “The Essential Unity of the Love Commands: Moving Beyond Paradox” (which was published in the “Journal of Religious Ethics in 2007).

Dr. Ogletree has proven himself an assiduously career-driven individual, with a passion for education and religion. He was the founding pastor of the Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, and since 1980, he has served on the board of the Journal of Religious Ethics, having completed one term as associate editor. Dr. Ogletree is also affiliated with several organizations. He is a life member of Clare Hall at Cambridge University, and a fellow at Pierson College. He is a former accreditation team member of the Review of Duke Divinity School for the Association of Theological Schools; there, he is also a former selection committee member of the Faculty Fellowships Program. Other associations to which Dr. Ogletree has belonged include the Society of Christian Ethics, for which he is a former president and former publications committee chairman, and the North American Academy of Ecumenists. Dr. Ogletree is also the recipient of numerous awards, which include an honorary Doctor of Laws from Livingstone College and Hood Theological Seminary in 1995, an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Birmingham-Southern College in 1991, and an honorary Master of Arts from Yale University in 1990. He feels he has garnered success in his career because he continues to receive support from his parents and his wife, Mary-Lynn Ogletree. Moreover, he enjoys spending time with his family.
