Cambridge Who’s Who Member James E. Jackson Jr. has made significant strides while serving in his position as the city architect for the City of Tampa, Florida. As the first African American to retain this rank, Mr. Jackson has showcased his expertise in managing government projects adeptly and fluently for more than ten years. He is responsible for overseeing the city’s capital improvement program and serves as the manager of the planning and design division for the city’s contract administration department.
Mr. Jackson has completed more than 200 projects for the City of Tampa. Having maintained a love for architecture since high school, he persistently works toward the the continual improvement of the region. Additionally, he has provided his architectural services to several firms and organizations in the Tampa Bay area. Noteworthy projects on which he has worked include the
Florida A&M Student Union Building, Blake High School and Durant High School.
For several years, Mr. Jackson has also functioned as a veteran adjunct instructor with the architectural division of
Hillsborough Community College. In this position, he has taught the majority of classes in the program, and has been a key player in the acceptance of the school into the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. Mr. Jackson’s teaching abilities have helped his students become accepted into such higher education schools as the University of Florida, the University of South Florida, Howard University and the Pratt Institute. For his numerous accomplishments, in 2007 Mr. Jackson was invited to participate as a speaker in the National Convention at Orlando in Florida by the
National Organization of Minority Architects.
Mr. Jackson is a graduate of Howard University, having received a Bachelor of Architecture in 1990. He is a member of the National Organization of Minority Architects, The American Institute of Architects and Omega Psi Phi. He volunteers with the latter-most organization, and accredits the success he has gained throughout his career to his ability to work within a team. Although he dedicates a large amount of time to his profession, Mr. Jackson enjoys golfing and spending time with his family. James E. Jackson Jr. became a Cambridge Who’s Who Member in September 2008.
